As harvests begin in Hatay, Turkey's seventh-largest grape-producing province, the Hassa district, a key agricultural hub, aims for a record 81,000-ton yield.
Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı personally participated in the grape harvest events in the Hassa district, one of the province's most critical agricultural production centers, meeting with producers. Inspecting the vineyard areas on-site, Masatlı received information from technical teams and farmers regarding the overall season's progress and agricultural yield levels. Visiting the vineyard of producer Mustafa Bey, Governor Masatlı harvested grapes alongside farmers using vineyard shears. Stating that the work is vital for the region's agriculture, Masatlı emphasized that the sustainability of production is a primary priority.
According to Hatay Governorship data, approximately 84,477 tons of grapes were harvested from about 50,000 decares across the province in the 2025 season. Projections for 2026 anticipate the grape harvest in Hatay to reach approximately 85,000 tons, positioning the province as the 7th largest in Turkey for viticulture. In Hassa, which shoulders the main volume of the provincial harvest, 80,640 tons were produced from 44,800 decares in 2025, while the district's harvest is targeted to increase to 81,000 tons in the 2026 season.
In the Hassa district, an average yield of 1,800 kilograms per decare is achieved, with approximately 1,200 farming families directly earning their living from viticulture activities. Hassa, accounting for about 3% of Turkey's total vineyard area, is a significant agricultural center with high added value. Governor Masatlı highlighted that grape harvesting is not merely an agricultural activity but one that directly injects dynamism into the family budgets of thousands, the district's trade, and Hatay's overall production capacity.
Eight main grape varieties are widely cultivated in the region's vineyards, including Pafi, Horoz Karası, Hatun Parmağı, Perlette, Sultani Çekirdeksiz, Trakya İlkeren, Yalova İncisi, and Mevlana. Speaking during the harvest, Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı expressed his wishes for a fruitful and profitable 2026 harvest season for all farmers, stating:
