Thousands of Students in Samsun Educated Against Food Waste

Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry educated over 3,500 students in 48 schools as part of a food preservation campaign.

Within the scope of the food preservation campaign carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry organized a meaningful event. Students were brought together at Hüseyin Avni Asal Primary School during a program held for the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. While experts explained the value of food and the efficient use of resources to the children, students experienced food transformation by preparing chocolate balls from leftover bread and cake crumbs.

Speaking at the event, Samsun Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kemal Yılmaz drew attention to the fact that food loss begins from the production area, stating:

Provincial Director Yılmaz emphasized that great importance is given to raising conscious consumers in line with the Ministry's 2024-2028 Strategic Plan and Action Plan, and stated that the training continues unabated across the province. According to data from the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 3,514 students were reached through educational programs held in 48 schools across the province. It was noted that habits acquired at an early age play a fundamental role in building a sustainable society.

Stating that it is imperative to preserve food supply in the face of rapid global population growth, Samsun Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kemal Yılmaz concluded his remarks by saying:

The program continues to strengthen societal awareness.
