Sunflower Floor Price Expectation Reaches 42 Lira

Rising input costs in Turkey's sunflower production have reached 31.51 TL per kilogram, prompting producers to demand a purchase price of at least 41-42 TL for sustainability.
Sunflower Production and Cost Pressure
As the harvest season approaches for sunflowers, a strategic agricultural product in Turkey, cost pressures are becoming prominent. According to information shared by Ahencan Tayakısı, Head of the Adana Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers (TMMOB), Turkey is among the top 10 countries in global sunflower production, which totals 23 million tons annually, with its approximately 2.2 million-ton harvest in 2024. For the crop, which is a primary source of income for farmers in many regions, especially Trakya-Marmara, it has been reported that the unit cost has reached 31.51 TL due to rising input expenses.
Purchase Price Demand for Sustainability
It is emphasized that a floor price covering only production costs will not be sufficient for the continuity of production. Ahencan Tayakısı, Head of the Adana Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers (TMMOB), made the following assessment regarding the purchase price:
"For farmers to continue production, they need to earn an income that not only covers their costs but also compensates for their labor and capital. For sustainable sunflower farming, producer profit must also be considered, and the purchase price should be set at a minimum of 41-42 TL/kg."
Producers expect the announced purchase price to be at these levels.
