The harvest of geographically indicated Konuralp rice, cultivated on 2,250 decares in Duzce, has started bountifully, boosted by favorable weather conditions and seed support.
The harvest season has begun for Konuralp rice, a geographically indicated product with historical roots dating back to the 1800s, often referred to as 'the rice of the Ottoman palace cuisine' in Duzce. Local producers, who planted paddy in wetland areas in May, have started gathering their crops cultivated across a total of 2,250 decares. This product, in high demand for its unique flavor and quality, promises a high yield this season due to agricultural support and favorable conditions.
Public support has been effectively implemented to strengthen paddy production in the region. Within the scope of the 'Project for the Effective Utilization of Agricultural Lands' carried out by the General Directorate of Plant Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 42 tons of ancestral seeds, along with material and equipment support, were provided to 92 producers across Duzce. These supports have been noted to contribute directly to both the efficient use of planting areas and the sustainability of traditional seeds.
Farmer Orhan Aktepe stated that the climatic conditions throughout the season positively impacted paddy development and made the following statement regarding the harvest process:
Aktepe expressed his aim to pass on the paddy production, which he inherited from his father, to future generations.
