Istanbul Municipality to Provide 300 Million Lira Support to Farmers

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality announced that it will provide agricultural input and in-kind support worth 300 million TL to producers in 2026.

Financial support for producers was announced at the Sunflower Harvest Festival held by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in Silivri Gazitepe Mahallesi. Speaking at the event, IMM Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan announced that 300 million TL in agricultural support will be provided to producers in 2026. Aslan stated that the total value of input support provided since 2020 has reached 667 million TL. During this period, farmers were supplied with 81 million vegetable seedlings, 15,917 bags of oilseed sunflower seeds, 8,730 bags of silage corn seeds, and 1,211,000 liters of diesel fuel.

Within the scope of the municipality's plant production projects, 3,537 bags of oilseed sunflower seeds were distributed in the 2026 production season alone. IMM Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan noted that these seeds were planted by producers on approximately 106,000 decares of land. To increase quality and efficiency in production, trial plantings of 10 different sunflower varieties were conducted on 1,410 decares. Silivri Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Sabri Özer emphasized that the distributed seeds directly reduce input costs.

As a result of agricultural activities carried out across the city, an oilseed sunflower harvest of approximately 45-50 thousand tons is expected this year. It is aimed to produce about 20-22 thousand tons of vegetable oil from the harvested crop. An increase of over 10% in product yield is calculated thanks to favorable rainfall conditions and the use of certified seeds. The IMM administration announced that in-kind support for livestock, beekeeping, and fisheries sectors, as well as for wheat, barley, and fertilizer, will continue.
