Agriculture and Food Entrepreneurship Discussed in Balıkesir

A roadmap to support young entrepreneurs and agricultural value chains was discussed at a workshop in Balıkesir, organized in cooperation with FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

An inception and implementation workshop was held in Balıkesir within the scope of the 'Accelerating Agri-Food Entrepreneurship Program,' conducted in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Approximately 50 representatives from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization of Turkey (KOSGEB), universities, producer unions, and non-governmental organizations participated in the two-day workshop held at the Southern Marmara Development Agency (GMKA). At the meeting, key value chains in the city's agriculture and food system, potential investment opportunities, and roadmaps for supporting young entrepreneurs were evaluated.

Comprehensive regional analyses prepared in cooperation with FAO and Özyeğin University were shared at the workshop, implemented under the coordination of the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Within the framework of the program, responsible agricultural investment principles, selection criteria for producers who will benefit from support, and inter-institutional coordination processes were discussed in detail. Experts noted that bringing young producers into the sector is a fundamental requirement for the sustainability of local production and that new business models need to be implemented rapidly.
