The Deveboynu Peninsula, located on the borders of Van and Bitlis, has been declared Turkey's 54th national park, safeguarding its biodiversity and historical heritage.
The Deveboynu Peninsula, located within the borders of Gevaş district in Van and Tatvan district in Bitlis, has been declared Turkey's 54th national park, bringing it under protection. With this decision, the pristine coves along the shores of Lake Van and its rich wildlife have gained legal protection.
Evaluating the decision, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı highlighted the area's ecotourism potential, stating:
Turkey's 54th national park is the Deveboynu Peninsula. We have brought the Deveboynu Peninsula, which hosts unique beauties with the turquoise coves of Lake Van, its untouched nature, rich wildlife, and thousand-year-old historical heritage, under protection. With our goal of a Turkey free from terrorism, we will bring the unique values of this ancient geography to the forefront more strongly and increase the ecotourism potential of our region.
