Turkey and Russia Reach Agreement on Fertilizer Supply

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that Russia will not impose any quotas or restrictions on its fertilizer and raw material exports to Turkey.

Agreement on Fertilizer Imports with Russia

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that a critical agreement has been reached between Turkey and Russia regarding fertilizer supply. Speaking at the Ministry's Lodumlu Campus in Ankara, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı shared the details of the agreement with the following words:

'The agreement we have reached is that Russia will not impose any quotas or restrictions on the import of fertilizer raw materials and fertilizer needed by our country.'

This agreement aims to guarantee the input security of producers before the agricultural production season.

Uninterrupted Supply of Agricultural Inputs

Stating that the Ministry delegation successfully completed its contacts in Russia, the Ministry announced that preparations were initiated months in advance. Evaluating the process, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said the following:

'We had started our preparations regarding fertilizer, which holds a very important place among agricultural inputs, well in advance, especially from October onwards when agricultural production will resume. Our colleagues have also completed their negotiations with Russia, a significant supplier in this regard. The necessary signatures have been obtained there. Our work continues not only with Russia but also with important countries for fertilizer supply. Our goal is to ensure there are no problems in our country when the planting season arrives.'

Bay Leaf Protocol with China

An official protocol regarding bay leaf exports between Turkey and China was signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry. Reminding that agreements were made with China for various products, especially almonds, in October last year, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following statement:

'Today, protocols related to bay leaf, one of our country's leading value-added products, have been signed with the Chinese delegation. We are looking at an annual export of approximately $60 million.'

It was stated that this signed protocol will facilitate direct access for Turkish agricultural products to the Chinese market.

Poultry Meat and Aquatic Product Targets

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that agricultural exports to the Far East market will be diversified and new steps will be taken in the field of animal products:

'Our work and negotiations, especially regarding poultry meat, are ongoing. We will be sharing good news in this regard soon.'

Emphasizing the importance of knowledge and technology transfer in bilateral trade, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı continued his words as follows:

'I want to emphasize the importance of agricultural diplomacy and bilateral cooperation here. Especially the transfer of technology, knowledge, and experience will continue.'

New Contacts in Agricultural Diplomacy

Stating that production planning and market expansion efforts will continue, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı conveyed that agricultural diplomacy will continue intensively in the coming days and made the following assessment:

'As we approach the end of the harvest, we will continue our work to plan for the new season, ensure there are no problems with inputs, and export our products in a value-added manner. Agreements between countries include country guarantees for the supply of fertilizers that we need and cannot produce domestically. In this regard, we may sometimes impose certain quotas and bans on inputs or exports for various reasons within our country. Russia does the same. The agreement we have reached is that Russia will not impose any quotas or restrictions on the import of fertilizer raw materials and fertilizer needed by our country. We are striving to ensure that there are no problems with inputs.'

Minister Yumaklı added that Germany's Minister of Agriculture, his counterpart, will also visit Turkey in the coming weeks for official talks.
