New Sources Reached at Gönen Geothermal Greenhouse Site

Two new geothermal sources have been commissioned at the Gönen Geothermal Heated Greenhouse OTB site in Balıkesir. Once the project reaches full capacity, it is expected to generate 20 billion Turkish Liras for the economy with an annual production of 250,000 tons.

Geothermal Move in Gönen Greenhouse

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, announced that two new geothermal sources with the necessary temperature and flow rate have been reached in the drilling operations conducted at the Balıkesir Gönen Geothermal Heated Greenhouse OTB site. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, made the following statement via his social media account:

"By commissioning these wells, we are converting domestic and renewable energy into uninterrupted production."

According to the statement, this step aims to ensure uninterrupted heating of the greenhouses for 12 months and to strengthen the low-carbon production model.

Production Targets and Economic Contribution

With the commissioning of the facilities in the region, efficiency in the supply of fresh fruits and vegetables is aimed for. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, conveyed the ministry's projections, stating:

"Once the 8 million square meter Balıkesir Gönen Geothermal Heated Greenhouse OTB, equipped with high technology, is fully operational, it will provide direct employment for 10,000 people, produce 250,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables annually, and contribute 20 billion Turkish Liras to the national economy each year. We are transforming underground energy into above-ground production, and production into employment and exports. May it be beneficial and fruitful for Balıkesir, our producers, and our country."
