62.5% Greenhouse Support for 40 Producers in Şanlıurfa

In Şanlıurfa, 40 farmers were selected by lottery for greenhouse installation support with a 62.5% grant rate to promote modern greenhouse farming.

Lottery Excitement in Greenhouse Project

Beneficiaries have been determined within the scope of the Modern Greenhouse Development and Dissemination Project, carried out to modernize agricultural production in Şanlıurfa. In the study conducted in partnership with the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and GAP Regional Development Administration, 40 producers were selected by lottery held in the presence of a notary public. Speaking at the ceremony held at the Provincial Directorate Training Facility, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar emphasized the importance of investments with the following words:

"Because today, the issue in agriculture is not just about producing more; it is about producing more efficiently, more controllably, and more sustainably. Modern greenhouse farming offers a significant opportunity precisely at this point."

62.5% Grant Model

Within the scope of the project, modern greenhouses will be installed on 1-decare plots for farmers who meet the criteria. Under the financing model, 62.5% of the facility cost will be covered by grant support, and the remaining 37.5% will be covered by the producer's contribution share. Drip irrigation and modern fertilization infrastructure, along with biotechnical pest control methods, will be used in the greenhouses to be established. Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar stated that the municipality focuses on the entire production chain and made the following assessment:

"We are trying to strengthen the entire production chain, from seed to soil, from water to production technique."

Local Seeds Meet Technology

Gülpınar, touching upon efforts to preserve the regional agricultural heritage, announced that registered genetic resources such as Şelengo, Urfa melon, Urfa pumpkin, Birecik eggplant, Tat watermelon, and Şanlıurfa pepper will be protected. Stating that smart irrigation is integrated with new generation farming techniques, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar shared their goals:

"While protecting the seeds of our past, we are bringing them together with the technology of the future."

It was noted that practical training activities are being carried out in the field, in addition to the direct supply of seeds, seedlings, and saplings to producers.

Sustainable Agriculture and Resource Management

Gülpınar stated that 50% support is provided to farmers for soil analyses and indicated that resource conservation steps such as promoting stubble cultivation and the Smart Irrigation Project are being taken. Emphasizing the protection of natural assets, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar warned:

"It is not possible to protect the future of agriculture without protecting the soil, nor without protecting water."

Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar concluded his remarks by stating their goal to reach more producers across the city with the project:

"Şanlıurfa will grow as it produces, and our city will prosper as our producers earn."
