Marine Conservation Protocol Signed for Aegean and Mediterranean Coasts

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Mediterranean Conservation Society have signed a 5-year cooperation protocol to safeguard biodiversity and fisheries along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
Joint Protocol for Sustainable Fisheries
An official cooperation protocol has been signed between the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Mediterranean Conservation Society for the protection of marine biodiversity on Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. The signing ceremony, held in the capital Ankara, was attended by Turgay Türkyılmaz, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Zafer Ali Kızılkaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Conservation Society. This agreement will combine the legal coordination power of the public sector with the field experience of civil society towards a common goal, ensuring steps are taken to secure the future of marine resources.
Five-Year Marine Conservation Framework
The agreement, announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, includes a comprehensive work calendar spanning a total of 5 years. Within the scope of the protocol, sustainable fishing activities will be supported along the entire coastline, especially in Gökova Bay and Göcek bays located within Muğla province. Simultaneously, monitoring studies for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal and sandbar shark will be conducted, and joint scientific field activities aimed at protecting marine wealth through seagrass research will be carried out uninterruptedly.
