The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has launched the shelled hazelnut purchasing process for the 2026/2027 season at its Çilimli Topçular facility in Düzce. According to the purchase tariff announced by TMO, prices are set at 255 Turkish Lira per kilogram for Giresun quality hazelnuts, 250 TL for Levant quality, and 245 TL for Sivri and other quality hazelnuts. AK Party Central Decision and Executive Board Member and Düzce Deputy Ayşe Keşir, Düzce Deputy Ercan Öztürk, Düzce Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Esra Uzun, and TMO Sakarya Chief Director Dursun Esen inspected the purchasing center, monitoring the operations on-site.
Quality and Delivery Criteria Applied in Purchases
Technical quality conditions have been put into effect for the hazelnuts to be purchased by the institution. According to TMO's criteria, the moisture content of the products must not exceed 6.5%, and the sound kernel ratio must be at least 40%. Additionally, the proportion of shriveled kernels is limited to a maximum of 10%, defective and rotten kernels to a maximum of 7%, and foreign matter to a maximum of 0.5%. Producers who meet these conditions and are registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) can deliver their products to the institution after obtaining an appointment for sample analysis and quality determination.
Significant Increase Expected in Düzce's Hazelnut Yield
According to the 2025 TÜİK data shared by the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, 53,723 tons of hazelnuts were produced across 631,347 decares in the province, ranking Düzce 5th in Turkey. The Provincial Directorate's 2026 yield estimation study indicates a significant increase in production, with an expected yield of 102,071 tons. Officials emphasize the importance of farmers preparing their hazelnuts in accordance with standards and delivering them by appointment to ensure healthy market conditions.
