New Dried Fig Export Season to Begin September 28

Turkey's first shipments of 2026-crop dried figs are set to commence on September 28, with exporters targeting over 60,000 tons in outbound sales for the new season.

The first shipment date for the 2026-crop dried figs, one of Turkey's strategic export products, has been announced as Monday, September 28, 2026. Yusuf Gabay, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association, announced that portable UV hand lamps were distributed to producers in coordination with the Aydın and İzmir Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry prior to the new season. This initiative aims to rapidly screen aflatoxin-contaminated products in drying areas. Detailing the on-site measures, Yusuf Gabay, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association, stated:

Sharing the trade performance of the past season, EKMMİB Chairman Yusuf Gabay reported that 55,000 tons of dried figs were sold between October 15, 2025, and September 8, 2026, generating $343 million in revenue. Touching upon the sector's year-end and future projections, EKMMİB Chairman Yusuf Gabay outlined the targets:

The European Union market maintained its position as the primary buyer with a demand of 17,775 tons, accounting for a 32% share, while the Americas reached a volume of 16,000 tons.

Highlighting the significant expansion in the Far East market, Yusuf Gabay, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association, made the following assessment:

On a country-by-country basis, the USA ranked first with $58 million, followed by Germany with $44.5 million, and France with $44 million. China, which increased its exports by 249% to $17.7 million, ranked fourth, with Canada taking fifth place at $13.5 million.
