Expert Committee Inspects Stink Bug Damage to Hazelnuts in Giresun

An expert committee from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and research institutes inspected the effects of the brown marmorated stink bug on hazelnut quality and yield at TMO and free market purchasing points in Giresun.
Extensive field inspections were carried out in Giresun to protect product quality and productivity during hazelnut purchasing processes. A technical committee, comprising experts from the General Directorate of Food and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and research institutes, visited the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) purchasing centers and hazelnut traders in the free market. The committee, including Hüseyin Akyazı, Dr. Mansur Uluca, Senior Agricultural Engineer Çiğdem Bulam Köse, and Senior Agricultural Engineer Hafize Palancı, along with provincial directorate personnel, meticulously inspected the purchasing criteria.
During the technical field inspections, the tangible effects of the brown marmorated stink bug, one of the most serious threats faced by producers in the region, on hazelnut yield and quality were analyzed on-site. Expert teams examined the physical deformations in the products at the purchasing points and recorded the current pest density. Evaluations conducted in line with purchasing criteria addressed the processes between producers and traders, and the pest's market repercussions were reported through mutual information exchange.
