World Bank Approves $750 Million for Turkish Agriculture

The World Bank has approved a $750 million financing package for the 'Transformation of the Turkish Agricultural Food Sector Project,' pushing the total external financing package for 2026 beyond $9 billion.

The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a $750 million financing package for the 'Transformation of the Turkish Agricultural Food Sector Project.' This new funding, to be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK), will directly boost the production capacity of agricultural food businesses. The project aims to modernize producer organizations and accelerate rural development. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that this long-term external financing will strengthen Turkey's agricultural production ecosystem.

Key objectives of the project include enhancing the competitiveness, efficiency, and value-creation capabilities of agricultural food businesses. By integrating processes from production to market, economic ties between businesses and producer unions will be strengthened. With support channeled to the field through TKDK, agricultural food businesses will gain easier access to local and global markets. The project will support producers in scaling up and expanding their marketing networks, thereby increasing the overall productivity level of the agricultural sector. This will lead to a comprehensive modernization of the agricultural value chain.

With the approval of the $750 million agricultural loan, the total long-term external financing secured from the World Bank in 2026 has now surpassed $9 billion. These concessional resources, obtained in line with the Medium-Term Program targets, continue to be allocated to strategic production areas. Minister Mehmet Şimşek emphasized that this cooperation with international institutions will ensure the uninterrupted continuation of investments in agriculture and rural development. This strong external funding is expected to make significant contributions to agricultural sustainability and food supply security.
