The Competition Authority has launched a formal investigation into 18 companies in the plant protection and plant nutrition market on suspicion of sharing competition-sensitive information and coordination.
Competition Investigation in the Agrochemical Sector
The Competition Authority has launched a comprehensive investigation into a total of 18 companies operating in the plant protection and plant nutrition products market. In line with the decision dated 08.06.2026 and numbered 26-28/802-M, companies providing essential inputs for agricultural production have been scrutinized. The statement indicated that an investigation is underway to determine whether 9 firms have violated Article 4 of Law No. 4054 on suspicion of forming economic integrity, and 9 firms on suspicion of exchanging competition-sensitive information. This legal process closely concerns the supply balances and input costs in the agricultural sector.
Scope and Legal Basis of the Investigation
The Competition Authority issued a corporate statement on the matter:
While plant protection products are designed to protect plants against pests, diseases, and harmful organisms, plant nutrition products aim to enhance plant health, yield, and productivity by providing essential nutrients and improving physiological processes. Within the scope of the investigation, it is aimed to examine the potential effects on competition of undertakings operating in the relevant markets sharing various competition-sensitive information such as product-specific prices and sales volumes, targets to be achieved, applied payment terms, and discount rates. In this context, it will be evaluated under Article 4 of Law No. 4054 whether such information sharing, by reducing strategic uncertainty among competitors, could lead to coordination between competitors in the plant nutrition or plant protection markets.
Companies Under Review and Market Structure
The investigation list includes 18 large domestic and international producers with significant market shares. Among the undertakings under review by the Authority are Adama Turkey, Agrobest Grup, Agrofarm Kimya, AMC-TR Tarım, Astranova Tarım, BASF Agricultural Solutions, Ertar Kimya, Ferbis Tarım, Sunset Kimya, FMC Turkey, Lances Link Kimya, Nufarm Turkey, Platin Kimya, Safa Tarım, UPL Ziraat, Sumi Agro Turkey, Syngenta Tarım, and Tarkim Bitki Koruma. During the review process, these firms' market strategies, distribution networks, discount rates, and credit sales conditions will be analyzed in detail.

A decrease in competition for these products used by our farmers can lead to an increase in agricultural product prices by narrowing supply and price options.
Officials emphasize that the ultimate goal of the investigation is to re-establish a competitive environment in the market, depending on its final outcome. This step is expected to pave the way for producers to procure agrochemical and plant nutrition inputs at much more competitive prices and favorable payment terms.
