Following the wettest period in the last 40 years in Sivas, with underground water and dams replenished, an over 30% increase in wheat and barley harvest is expected.
Rainfall Boosts Harvest Hopes
The most intense rainfall period in the last 40 years in Sivas has created significant activity in agricultural production ahead of the harvest. As a result of the abundant rainfall recorded during the winter and spring months, dams in the region have been filled, and underground water levels have risen considerably. Hacı Çetindağ, Chairman of the Sivas Chamber of Agriculture, drawing attention to meteorological data, stated that the rainfall has significantly replenished underground water resources, providing vital moisture to grain-cultivated areas.
Thirty Percent Increase in Grain Yields
Hacı Çetindağ, Chairman of the Sivas Chamber of Agriculture, expressed expectations of at least a 30% increase in wheat and barley production compared to last year, making the following assessment:
"When we look at the yield, we are having a very productive year. Our quality is also high. Looking at previous years, we see that our yield has increased by at least 30% this year, even more. Of course, due to excessive rainfall in some low-lying areas where water did not recede, some of our farmers have suffered losses. There were areas that could not be planted until the end of June. But looking at the overall picture, Sivas's harvest will be very good this year in terms of both quality and yield."
