Food Inflation Stands at 1.07% in August

According to TEPAV's Food Price Index data, monthly food inflation in Turkey increased by 1.07% in August, while annual food inflation decreased to 30.9%.
Food Price Trends in August
The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) released the Food Price Index (TEGE) data for the August 2026 period. According to data compiled between August 1-25, monthly food inflation across Turkey was recorded at 1.07%. The report prepared by TEPAV noted that food prices showed a nearly flat trend throughout August. Monthly food inflation, which was measured at 0.93% in July, showed a limited increase in August.
Price Hikes and Decreases
In the fresh fruit and vegetable group, the most significant price decreases were recorded for fresh beans, lemons, and melons. Conversely, notable price increases were observed for apples, cultivated mushrooms, and cucumbers within the same product group. According to data reported by CNBC-e, items outside of fresh fruits and vegetables that saw the most significant price hikes included local bonito, eggs, and tea. A decrease was observed in the prices of dairy products such as lentils, cream, clotted cream, and packaged sugar.
Annual Inflation Decline and TRNC
According to TEPAV data, annual food inflation decreased to 30.9% in August from 32.8% in July. According to the TRNC-TEGE bulletin published by the institution, monthly food inflation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was calculated as 2.72% in the period of August 1-25, with prices showing an upward trend again. It was reported that the official food inflation indicators for the August period from other institutions had not yet been announced as of the date of publication of the TEPAV bulletin.
