Union Fully Supports Probe into Sugar Market Quotas

The Sugar-Industry Union has announced its support for the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in 8 provinces concerning the exceeding of starch-based sugar quotas.
Comprehensive Investigation Launched into Sugar Market
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated a wide-ranging judicial review following allegations of violations of legal quotas and domestic market sales limitations in the production and trade of starch-based sugar. As part of the ongoing operational process, judicial proceedings are being carried out against a total of 25 companies operating in 8 provinces, with Istanbul as the center. Following this development, which closely concerns the agricultural industry and consumer health, the Turkish Food and Sugar Industry Workers' Union issued a written statement, announcing to the public that they are closely monitoring the process.
Emphasis on Food Safety and Quotas
The union management emphasized that concealing the true nature of products and presenting them to the market is not merely a violation of commercial legislation but a form of food fraud that directly threatens public health. In its statement, highlighting market balance, the Turkish Food and Sugar Industry Workers' Union made the following assessment:
"WE BELIEVE IN THE NECESSITY OF THE QUOTA SYSTEM IN THE SUGAR MARKET"
The statement recalled that high consumption of artificial sweeteners and uncontrolled sugar leads to metabolic diseases. It was noted that compliance with quotas is vital for maintaining market order, preventing unfair competition, and ensuring consumers are accurately informed.
Support for the Joint Will of the Ministries
Industry representatives expressed their satisfaction with the crackdown on irregular practices that manipulate the market. Evaluating the steps taken by the relevant institutions, Sugar-Industry Union officials made the following statements:
"We are pleased with the determined approach to the issue; we appreciate the will and determined efforts of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance in this regard."
Officials stated that irregularities that disrupt the balance of agricultural production and disregard consumer health must be investigated thoroughly, and called for the determined continuation of inspections.
