Pufferfish Catch Support Limit Raised to 1 Million

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has increased the upper limit of catch support provided to fishermen to combat invasive pufferfish species from 200,000 to 1 million individuals.

Limit Increased for Pufferfish Catch

The Regulation Amending the Regulation on the Support of Pufferfish Catch, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette. According to the Ministry's statement, the upper limit of support provided to fishermen in the fight against invasive species has been increased from 200,000 to 1 million individuals. The new regulation directly covers specified invasive species such as lagocephalus spadiceus, lagocephalus suezensis, and torquigener flavimaculosus. The decision entered into force on January 1, 2026, with the aim of protecting marine biodiversity and supporting fishermen's income.

SUBIS System and Application Conditions

According to the published regulation, the support process will be halted once the total catch of the specified species reaches 1 million individuals. Purchases will be immediately terminated via the Aquatic Products Information System (SUBIS) by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Simultaneously, an announcement will be made to the public on the official website of the General Directorate. The Ministry aims to protect aquatic resources and ensure the fishing sector benefits transparently from support payments through a systematic audit mechanism.
