Black Sea Anchovy and Horse Mackerel Fishing Subject to Strict Quota Monitoring
· Dünya Gazetesi

In the Black Sea, quota inspections aimed at protecting fish stocks are being intensified, with fishing activities to be automatically halted once set catch limits are reached.
During the ongoing fishing season in the Black Sea, fishing quotas implemented to protect aquatic product populations are being monitored very strictly. In an assessment made by Trabzon Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, İsa Kaplan, it was announced that vessels will retrieve their nets as soon as the determined fishing limits are reached. While it is noted that fishermen intensely turn to anchovy and horse mackerel during periods when bonito fishing weakens, it was stated that the rules set within the framework of legislation are being applied without compromise to prevent stock depletion.

According to data from the Trabzon Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a total quota of 400,000 tons is applied for anchovy fishing nationwide. Emphasizing that 45,000 tons of this amount is allocated to their region, İsa Kaplan stated that exceeding the determined limit is absolutely not possible. Reminding that, in line with the regulation published in the Official Gazette, a quota of 40,000 tons has also been set for horse mackerel nationwide, Kaplan reported that fishing will be automatically stopped once this limit is reached.
Stating that they aim to protect the balance of the marine ecosystem in line with the determined policies of the Ministry, Trabzon Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry İsa Kaplan made the following assessments on the subject:
