Tomato Prices Surge 75% Annually in Antalya Commodity Exchange

According to Antalya Commodity Exchange data, tomato transaction volume saw its sharpest decline in seven years in August, while the annual price index rose by 75.56%.
Volume Down, Prices Up for Tomatoes
According to Antalya Commodity Exchange data, the tomato transaction volume index decreased by 56.70% in August compared to the previous month. The volume index reached 12, also recording a 7.88% decline on an annual basis. This volume drop was registered as the sharpest decrease in August over the past seven years. The price index, however, reached 2,791 points, showing a 4.10% monthly increase and a 75.56% rise annually.
Monthly Price Increase in the Fruit Market
ATB data shows that the fruit transaction volume index was 49 in August, a monthly decrease of 23.42%. On an annual basis, fruit transaction volume recorded a 3.97% increase. The fruit price index stood at 3,066, demonstrating a 16.07% monthly increase. This monthly rise was the sixth largest increase in the last seven years. On an annual basis, the fruit price index exhibited a 4.51% decrease.
Monthly Contraction Seen in Vegetable Supply
In the vegetable group, the transaction volume index fell to 17 points in August, a decrease of 34.78% from the previous month. Annually, vegetable volume increased by 9.93%, while the price index was determined to be 2,638. The vegetable price index experienced a 1.44% monthly decrease, which was the fourth largest decline in seven years. On an annual basis, the vegetable price index rose by 61.66% despite the increase in volume.
Seven-Year Index Comparison Made
The ATB's analysis, based on seven years of August data, reported that tomato sales volume remained below average. Fruit and vegetable sales volumes, along with product price levels, stayed close to general averages. The 34.78% monthly decrease in vegetable volume was identified as the third largest drop in seven years. The 23.42% decline in fruit volume occurred as the fifth largest decrease in the last seven years.
