Electricity Outage in Urfa's Viranşehir Dries Up 20,000 Decares

Due to electricity outages lasting 40 days in Şanlıurfa's Viranşehir district, 20,000 decares of cultivated agricultural land could not be irrigated and has completely dried up.
20,000 Decares Dry Up in Viranşehir
Chronic electricity outages in Gellegöç village, affiliated with Şanlıurfa's Viranşehir district, have brought agricultural production to a standstill. According to statements by DEM Party Urfa Deputy Dilan Kunt Ayan, who visited the region, 20,000 decares of cultivated agricultural land have completely dried up due to energy cuts continuing for approximately 40 days. Examining the fields, DEM Party Urfa Deputy Dilan Kunt Ayan stated that producers purchased seeds and fertilizers on credit, saying:
"Farmers unable to produce their cotton and corn on their own land are forced to leave their fields and migrate to other cities as seasonal laborers. This situation is a disgrace to the government."
Economic Repercussions of the Agricultural Crisis
Dilan Kunt Ayan emphasized that the drought and infrastructure deficiencies in Şanlıurfa, Turkey's third-largest agricultural city, will create a domino effect, threatening the overall economy. Stating that the disruption in production will lead to chain reactions, DEM Party Urfa Deputy Dilan Kunt Ayan made the following assessment:
"The agricultural crisis will turn into a food crisis, and the food crisis will transform into a chain economic crisis in many areas, from textiles to transportation. If farmers in a city that is the breadbasket of Turkey cannot produce, this is a problem for the entire country."
Urgent Solution Call to Relevant Ministries
Direct calls were made to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to resolve the grievances in the region. Ayan argued that officials should inspect the situation on the ground and demanded that the chronic irrigation and electricity problem be solved without delay. Stating that incorrect agricultural policies must be abandoned, DEM Party Urfa Deputy Dilan Kunt Ayan concluded her remarks:
"We will continue to stand in solidarity with our farmers and sustain this rightful struggle on every platform."
