Suluova Onion Harvest Begins with 15,000 Ton Target

Harvesting has commenced for Suluova onions, a geographically indicated product of Amasya, with an expected yield of approximately 15,000 tons from 4,200 decares of land.

The new harvest season for the winter Suluova onion, cultivated uninterruptedly on the same lands for a century and protected by geographical indication registration, has officially begun in the Suluova district of Amasya. Agricultural workers, heading to the fields in the early morning hours, meticulously sort the harvested produce with the help of specialized machinery before carefully bagging them. Stating that the harvesting process requires significant labor, farm worker Fatma Börek shared:

Suluova Mayor Rıfat Uzun provided detailed information about the ongoing production activities in the district, reporting that 4,200 decares of land were cultivated this season. Emphasizing that Suluova onion is the region's sole registered product, Mayor Rıfat Uzun stated:

The harvested produce is being sold in the field for 15 Turkish Lira per kilogram.

Yusuf Tozlu, a producer from Kapancı Village, highlighted the product's long shelf life and commented on the market situation:

Mayor Rıfat Uzun, who personally participated in the harvest operations in the field, announced to the public that they aim to expand the decreasing onion cultivation areas in recent years and will undertake new projects to increase the agricultural contribution to the local district economy.
