Türkşeker commissions 20 MW solar power plant in Erciş
· Türkşeker

The 20 MW solar power plant, established on the grounds of the Erciş Sugar Factory in Van, has begun operations with a capacity to generate approximately double the electricity drawn from the grid by all factories.
Erciş SPP Officially Commissioned
The 20 MW Solar Power Plant (SPP), built by Türkşeker on the grounds of the Erciş Sugar Factory in Van, has officially been commissioned. The facility was made ready for operation after its TEDAŞ acceptance on October 21, 2026. The institution's internal acceptance procedures were completed on October 30, 2026. Dr. Muhiddin Şahin, Chairman of the Board and General Manager of Türkşeker, made statements regarding the commissioning of the plant:

'We expect the Erciş SPP to generate 48 million kWh of electricity annually. This amount corresponds to approximately double the annual electricity drawn from the grid by all our factories. With this investment, which is the largest project implemented in the public sector under the Energy Performance Contract model, we also aim to prevent approximately 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. We will continue to bring Türkşeker's deep-rooted production experience to meet the needs of the future, with investments that increase energy efficiency and support environmentally friendly production. I would like to thank all my colleagues and stakeholders who contributed to the realization of this project.'
Implemented with the Performance Contract Model
The new plant at the Erciş Sugar Factory site became the largest project established within the public sector under the Energy Performance Contract model, in accordance with the Energy Efficiency Law. According to institutional data, the plant, which is targeted to provide 48 million kWh of electricity annually, will balance the grid energy consumed by the sugar production facilities. The investment plans to prevent approximately 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Speaking about the facility's corporate goals, Türkşeker Chairman of the Board and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin noted the following:

'As Türkşeker, we support our production power with renewable energy investments and implement projects that will utilize our resources more efficiently. Following our first solar energy investment at our Ankara Machinery Factory, we have also commissioned the 20 MW plant we established at our Erciş Sugar Factory.'
First Project Initiated in Ankara
The institution's first solar energy facility was built on the roofs of the Ankara Machinery Factory with an installed capacity of 4 MW. Completed with an expenditure of approximately 70 million Turkish Lira and becoming operational on December 31, 2025, the plant began meeting all the electricity consumption of the Etimesgut facilities. According to the disclosed institutional data, the facility generates 6.47 million kWh of electricity annually, providing earnings of 19 million Turkish Lira. Furthermore, it prevents 2,859 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. With the Erciş investment, the institution aims to continue its steps towards alleviating the energy costs of sugar factories.
