56 Strawberry Greenhouses to be Delivered to Producers in Van

As part of a project implemented through a partnership between local government and a development agency in Van, over 142,000 seedlings have been planted in 58 greenhouses, and the handover of these facilities to producers is set to begin.

Greenhouse Delivery Process to Producers

As part of the project carried out in partnership with Van Metropolitan Municipality, Van Governorship, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (DAKA), the construction of 58 strawberry greenhouses has been completed. 56 of these greenhouses, each built to an approximate size of 500 square meters, will be delivered to eligible producers, determined according to technical criteria, within November. The remaining 2 greenhouses will be utilized for training, application, and R&D activities within the Provincial Directorate of Agricultural Services. The project aims to generate high income from unit areas and diversify producers' earnings.

Seedling Planting and Harvest Calendar

Hüseyin Aykaç, the greenhouse manager of the Van Metropolitan Municipality's Agricultural Services Department, announced that a total of 142,100 strawberry seedlings have been planted in the 58 greenhouses. Aykaç stated that 2,450 seedlings were placed in each greenhouse and that the plants will root and enter their winter dormancy. The first harvest of the strawberries, which will reawaken in March and April, is targeted for April and May. The project, which will contribute to rural employment, is planned to be further expanded in the future based on producer demands.
