Grape Prices Decline, Producers Call for Support

A drop in grape prices to 10 TL from last year's 18 TL has sparked producer backlash, with farmers demanding urgent support mechanisms.

The decline in grape prices to 10 TL this season, from 18 TL last year, has caused hardship for producers. This significant loss of income, occurring at a time of rapidly increasing production costs, has led to backlash from farmers. Despite the labor of workers toiling under the sun from 06:00 to 14:00 during harvest season, the product's failure to find value was notable. A producer, wanting to protest the sharp price drop, recited a funeral prayer in their vineyard, highlighting the gap between rising costs and purchase prices.

In the face of this crisis, producers expect the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and provincial/district agricultural directorates to intervene urgently. They demand that officials go to the field, assess producers' problems on-site, and provide direct support. It is emphasized that additional support mechanisms should be offered to active farmers by identifying vineyard areas across Turkey. Economic measures to compensate for rising input costs are requested to be implemented without delay for the sector's sustainability.
