Forest Fires in Antalya Threaten Greenhouses and Barns

Forest fires spreading due to wind in Antalya's Aksu and Kumluca districts have caused damage to greenhouses, animal barns, and residences.

Greenhouses and Barns Under Threat in Aksu

The forest fire that started in the Yeşilkaraman neighborhood of Antalya's Aksu district spread to residential areas and agricultural production zones as the wind intensified. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin, who inspected the area, announced that the flames directly threatened greenhouses and animal barns in the Karaöz and Yeşilkaraman neighborhoods. Evaluating the situation in the region, Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin made the following statements:

'It spread into both Karaöz and Yeşilkaraman neighborhoods by breaking through the firebreaks made by our forest teams from several points, threatening the houses, greenhouses, and animal barns here. Our teams made a great effort and, apart from a few houses that were damaged in the first stage, they saved the other houses.'

Livestock Losses and Damage in Kumluca

In the Kumluca district, another location of the fire, it was reported that the flames caused destruction in residential areas and negatively affected livestock activities. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin provided the following information, conveying the situation and ongoing efforts in the region:

'It damaged about 10 houses, but at this moment it does not threaten residential areas. The fight continues from the air and the ground. We are in constant contact with our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and our Minister of Interior. Our teams continue to work both from the air and the ground. What was critical here was that it also threatened the gendarmerie station. With the measures taken by our friends, we saved both the station and most of the other buildings. There is some damage. I also saw a few animals that perished. We will conduct damage and loss assessments after the fire is extinguished.'

Intensive Aerial and Ground Intervention Against Flames

Governor Şahin stated that firefighting efforts are continuing uninterrupted and the process is being closely monitored, reporting that the fire that started in Aksu yesterday at 4:20 PM has passed the 24-hour mark, while the flames in Kumluca broke out around 2:00 PM today. Providing information on the latest status of the fires, Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin noted the following:

'The fire that started in Karaöz in the Aksu district yesterday around 4:20 PM is continuing. It has passed 24 hours. It continues in the neighborhoods of our Aksu district. Additionally, a fire broke out in Kumluca today around 2:00 PM. That one is also continuing, but we have largely reduced its intensity and energy.'

The Antalya-Isparta highway was closed to traffic as a precautionary measure, while teams continue ground cooling operations.
