Two New Geothermal Sources Found in Gönen Greenhouse OIZ

With 2 new wells reached in the geothermal greenhouse area in Gönen, Balıkesir, uninterrupted 12-month production is targeted, while the project is expected to contribute 20 billion Turkish Lira annually to the economy.
In the drilling works carried out in the Gönen Geothermal Heated Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) in Balıkesir, 2 new geothermal sources with the necessary temperature and flow rate for greenhouse heating have been reached. Thanks to the new sources, it is planned to heat the greenhouses uninterruptedly for 12 months and reduce energy costs. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following statement on the matter:
"By commissioning these wells, we are converting domestic and renewable energy into uninterrupted production."
According to the information provided by the Ministry, the Greenhouse OIZ, which will be established with high technology in an area of 8 million square meters, will provide direct employment to 10,000 people when it reaches full capacity. The project aims to produce 250,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables annually and contribute 20 billion Turkish Lira to the national economy each year.
