Red Lentil Production Area in Erzincan's Kemaliye to Double

As part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's TAKE project, red lentil seeds with a 75% subsidy are being distributed to farmers in Erzincan's Kemaliye district, with a target to increase the cultivation area to 1,500 decares.
75% Subsidy for Lentils in Kemaliye
An extensive support program has been launched in Erzincan's Kemaliye district to expand red lentil production and increase agricultural productivity. Within the scope of the Project for Enhancing the Utilization of Agricultural Lands (TAKE), carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, red lentil seeds with a 75% subsidy have been provided to producers in the region. The distribution program, attended by Kemaliye District Governor Emirhan Arıkan and officials from the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, was planned to cover the villages of Çakırtaş, Karapınar, Kışlacık, Çat, Adak, Ocak, Yazmakaya, and Dutluca, with the aim of bringing idle lands back into the economy.
Production Area and Seed Distribution Doubled
According to data from the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, the red lentil planting area in Kemaliye, which was 700 decares in 2025, is targeted to be increased to 1,500 decares in the 2026 production season. In line with this expansion plan, the amount of seeds distributed has also significantly increased. According to the Provincial Directorate's statement, the 11,300 kilograms of seed support delivered to producers in the previous season has been raised to 23,300 kilograms in the new period. The project aims to both expand cultivated areas and promote the use of quality certified seeds.
Targeting Increased Yield and Farmer Participation
While approximately 120 tons of red lentils were harvested in the district last season, the total yield and farmer participation are expected to increase with the new support measures. The number of producers benefiting from the project is projected to rise from 18 in 2025 to 28 in the 2026 period. Officials reported that through this comprehensive support program, idle lands in rural areas will be utilized much more effectively, farmers' seed costs will be reduced, and the share of plant production in the regional economy will continue to be strengthened.
