The harvest season for organic paste tomatoes, grown from local seeds on 600 decares in Bitlis's Tatvan district, has commenced.
Record Success in Tomato Production in Bitlis
According to TÜİK 2025 data, Bitlis produced a total of 234,652 tons of tomatoes. With this production volume, Bitlis ranked 7th nationwide and 1st in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions. This record harvest success in the province once again demonstrated the region's agricultural production power and potential. Bitlis Governor Ahmet Karakaya and the accompanying provincial protocol attended the organized harvest program, emphasizing the strategic importance of agricultural activities for both regional development and the national economy.
Organic Harvest from Local Seeds in Tatvan
Organic paste tomato cultivation is ongoing on 600 decares in the Tatvan district, utilizing local and national seeds. Simultaneously, efforts are underway in the district to diversify the crop portfolio through alternative fruit production. Within this framework, the cultivation of 120,000 strawberry seedlings is meticulously continuing for planting in the autumn sowing period. Officials who met with farmers in the harvest area wished the producers working in the fields a profitable season and highlighted the importance of the widespread adoption of modern and local agricultural practices in the field.
