Competition Authority Launches Investigation into 18 Agricultural Chemical Companies

The Competition Authority has launched a formal investigation into 18 companies operating in the plant protection and plant nutrition markets on suspicion of information exchange and competition law violations.

The Competition Authority has launched an investigation into 18 undertakings operating in the plant protection and plant nutrition markets, which constitute the fundamental inputs for agricultural production. In the official statement, it was announced that the companies marketing chemicals that protect plants against pests, as well as fertilizers and nutrition products that increase efficiency, will be audited to determine whether they are violating legislation through information exchange.

During the investigation process, it is being investigated whether the companies shared product-specific prices, sales volumes, discount rates, and payment terms. The following statements were included in the institutional statement published by the Competition Authority regarding the issue:

"In this context, it will be evaluated within the scope of the Law whether such information sharing reduces strategic uncertainty among competitors and could lead to coordination between competitors in the plant nutrition or plant protection markets."
