The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that Abalı brand strained flower honey, produced by manufacturers based in Akyurt, Ankara, and widely sold online, has been found to be adulterated.
Ministry Updates Imitation List
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry updated its list of imitated and adulterated foods on August 20, 2026, to protect food safety. The official list, shared via the Reliable Food Portal, included Abalı brand strained flower honey, which is widely sold online. Non-compliance with regulations was identified in honey with an expiration date of September 12, 2027, produced by Hastürk Gıda Otomotiv İnşaat Emlak Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., based in Akyurt, Ankara, and by the firm Vahit Yıldız Balsu – Vahit Yıldız.
Adulteration and Fraud Methods in Honey
Official laboratory examinations conducted by the Ministry revealed that substances of lesser value were added to the honey product in question. According to evaluations, in cases of adulteration frequently encountered in the beekeeping sector, glucose or various sugar syrups are added to honey to reduce the natural cost of the product. The addition of such foreign substances artificially increases the product's quantity while causing the loss of honey's natural structure. Official records indicate that consumers are directly subjected to economic and nutritional value loss.
Sales Channels and Consumer Warning
It was determined that Abalı brand strained flower honey, listed as imitation, is widely sold on digital marketplaces and popular e-commerce sites. The product, reaching a broad consumer base, was also found to be marketed through the brand's official website. With the Ministry's public announcement, the aim is to withdraw the adulterated batch from the market and prevent unfair competition. Consumers are advised to regularly follow food safety lists and be cautious of suspicious beekeeping products.
