TMO Procures Three Thousand Tons of Hazelnuts in Kandıra

The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has received nearly 3,000 tons of hazelnuts from 2,000 producers at its storage facility in Kandıra, Kocaeli, over approximately one month.

The Multipurpose Agricultural Product Procurement and Storage Facility, brought to the district by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, is now serving hazelnut producers after serving grain producers. According to information provided by Erdal Çetin, Head of the Kandıra Chamber of Agriculture, nearly 3,000 tons of product have been received from 2,000 producers in approximately one month as part of the shelled hazelnut procurement initiated by the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) on August 24. It was reported that producers are waiting for appointment slots for approximately 3,500 tons of product within the delivery process carried out at the facility.

Stating that the announced hazelnut purchase price remained slightly below producer expectations, Erdal Çetin noted that the swift acceptance of products meeting TMO criteria and the timely payments according to the planned schedule created satisfaction. According to the information Çetin conveyed, Kandıra has yielded positive results in terms of hazelnut yield and quality across the district. It was determined that the spoilage rate in the district remained low, and the average yield was realized at a level of 48.

It was stated that personnel are working intensely between 08:00 AM and 10:00 PM to ensure the smooth operation of the activities at the TMO Kandıra Procurement Center. Erdal Çetin, Head of the Kandıra Chamber of Agriculture, expressed that coordination will continue with the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, TMO, and relevant stakeholders with the aim of increasing service quality in the coming seasons. Çetin emphasized that the storage facility provides significant infrastructural support for producers and extended his thanks to Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın.
