The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has provided over 116 tons of fodder crop seeds and modern harvesting machinery support to 426 farmers in 10 districts, aiming to reduce production costs in rural areas.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has initiated the distribution of a total of 116,125 kilograms of fodder crop seeds to 426 farmers in 10 districts, with the aim of reducing production costs in rural areas. At the ceremony held at the Çatalca Mehmetçik Square Indoor Market Place, it was announced that a four-component fodder crop seed mix was supplied for the first time. IBB Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan stated that 53,025 kilograms of the seeds, provided to producers in 98 neighborhoods, were delivered to 177 producers in Çatalca. Officials indicated that the distribution network will expand to Silivri and surrounding districts, with the goal of increasing fodder quality and milk yield in animal husbandry.
Modern Mechanization in Legume Harvesting
In addition to seed support, new agricultural machinery was introduced at the ceremony to alleviate producers' labor costs. Within the program's scope, modern dry bean and chickpea harvesting and threshing machines were allocated to the Çatalca and Silivri agricultural chambers. According to information shared by IBB Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan, these machines have the technical capacity to harvest 75 decares of land per day. This technology, which speeds up the harvesting process, aims to relieve the cost pressure on legume producers, who particularly struggle with finding labor, and to prevent product losses.
Input Support for Rural Development
As part of the metropolitan municipality's agricultural support initiatives since 2020, over 80 million vegetable seedlings have been supplied to producers to date. Nuri Aslan noted that support for sunflower, silage corn, wheat, barley, and oat seeds, along with fertilizer and diesel aid, continues, emphasizing their commitment to protecting farmers against rising input prices. Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel stated that fertile lands should not remain idle and that they prioritize keeping young people in agriculture. Representatives from agricultural chambers and breeding cattle growers' associations, along with numerous regional farmers, attended the ceremony.
