While the majority of forest fires, which increase during summer months, are attributed to human negligence, drought and the climate crisis amplify the risk of these fires.
It is noted that a significant proportion, approximately 90%, of forest fires that increase during the summer months are caused by human-related factors. According to Tarım Pusulası data, uncontrolled stubble burning in fields after harvest, unextinguished cigarette butts, uncontrolled picnic fires, and sparks from power lines are among the primary factors triggering fires.
Rising temperatures and extended drought periods, driven by global greenhouse gas emissions, critically reduce the moisture levels in the soil and vegetation cover. The accumulation of dry branches, leaves, and underbrush on the forest floor causes even a small spark to transform into a massive disaster within seconds, severely complicating intervention processes.
