TÜRKŞEKER Launches 65th Production Campaign at Ankara Factory

Turkish Sugar Factories Inc. (TÜRKŞEKER) has initiated its new campaign period at the Ankara Sugar Factory, which will last 120 days and aims to produce 60,000 tons of crystal sugar.

The Ankara Sugar Factory, operating under Turkish Sugar Factories Inc. (TÜRKŞEKER), has launched the 2026-2027 Sugar Production Campaign. With the Sugar Beet Procurement Ceremony held at the factory premises, the facility officially entered its 65th campaign period. The ceremony was attended by TÜRKŞEKER Chairman of the Board and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin, along with industry stakeholders. Speaking about the facility, whose foundation was laid in 1958, Dr. Muhiddin Şahin stated that it was the first sugar factory established with domestic resources, saying:

According to data shared by Ankara Sugar Factory Manager Bedirhan Aka, the campaign process will continue for approximately 120 days. Within the scope of the campaign, contract farming was carried out with 1,699 farmer families in 97 villages. It was announced that sugar beet was cultivated on a total of 75,390 decares in the region. The factory plans to process 455,000 tons of sugar beet this season, aiming to produce 60,000 tons of crystal sugar. In line with the facility's by-product targets, it aims to obtain 20,000 tons of molasses and 133,000 tons of wet beet pulp.

TÜRKŞEKER General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin announced that production has commenced in 14 factories across Turkey this period. According to the information provided by Şahin, sugar beet farming is conducted in 1,151 villages and by over 30,000 households nationwide. An expected harvest of 6.87 million tons of sugar beet is anticipated from approximately 1 million decares of land. Stating that 910,000 tons of sugar will be obtained from the processed products, Dr. Muhiddin Şahin made the following statement:

Dr. Muhiddin Şahin stated that the institution has reached its 101st campaign, and Turkey's export of sugar-containing products has reached 4.5 billion dollars. He emphasized that producer assurance is provided through the contract model, announcing that contracts have been signed with over 30,000 producers this year. Dr. Muhiddin Şahin continued by stating that farmers have a purchase guarantee before they even plant:

Addressing the infrastructure details of the Ankara campus, TÜRKŞEKER management reported that the campus includes a machinery factory, an electromechanical devices factory, a seed processing facility, and the Sugar Institute. It was stated that all stages of the production chain are gathered in the same area. Furthermore, it was announced that the Ankara Sugar Factory has transitioned to a paperless electronic beet weighing system for the first time this campaign period. Emphasizing occupational safety, Dr. Muhiddin Şahin shared his wish:

It was stated that agricultural production processes are monitored using technological means. According to TÜRKŞEKER's statement, the Beet Tracking System monitors approximately 1 million decares of cultivated land via satellite. The system provides data to agricultural teams for irrigation, fertilization, and disease detection. Dr. Muhiddin Şahin shared his approach, noting that needs in the field are responded to quickly:
