5 Million Lira Greenhouse Support Provided to Farmers in Kastamonu

As part of a 5 million lira project implemented with the partnership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and producers, 502 greenhouse covers were distributed to farmers in Kastamonu.

Within the scope of the 'Vegetable Production Development Project' carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to improve under-cover production in Kastamonu, the 'Vegetables Always Green with Greenhouse Cover Project' was launched. In this initiative with a total budget of 5 million TL, 50% of the cost was covered by the Ministry, and the remaining 50% by the producers. Within the framework of the project, where the Ministry's contribution was 2 million 500 thousand TL, a total of 502 greenhouse covers weighing 33,600 kilograms in various sizes were procured and delivered to farmers according to the demands of the district directorates.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Kastamonu Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Kılıç announced that there are approximately 320 decares of greenhouse area across the province, according to TÜİK data. Kılıç stated that approximately 1,900 producers are involved in under-cover production, emphasizing that greenhouse activities are particularly concentrated in the Kastamonu center and İnebolu districts. Reminding that support has accelerated in recent years, Kılıç noted that 1,356 greenhouse covers have been distributed in the last three years, and an additional 152 greenhouses have been provided to producers through rural development and IFAD projects.

Within the scope of the 'Effectiveness of Agricultural Land Use' (TAKE) Project, carried out with the aim of diversifying plant production and bringing idle lands into agriculture, 10 separate projects were implemented in Kastamonu in 2025 and 13 in 2026. With a total of 23 projects, the aim is to reduce input costs for small-scale farmers, extend the vegetable harvest season, and keep rural family businesses within the production chain. These implemented models are planned to increase plant productivity in the region.

AK Party Kastamonu Deputy Fatma Serap Ekmekci, who attended the distribution program and addressed the producers, drew attention to the continuous growth of greenhouse farming across the province and made the following assessments:
