Agricultural Input Inflation Hits Decade Low

According to TurkStat data, the agricultural input price index rose by 0.20% month-on-month in July, reaching its lowest July level in 10 years.

Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) and ATAK Chairman Ali Çandır evaluated the July 2026 Agricultural Input Price Index data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The Tarim-GFE showed a monthly increase of 0.20% and an annual increase of 27.62% in July. Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) and ATAK Chairman Ali Çandır made the following statement:

Drawing attention to the annual decline, Ali Çandır continued:

According to TurkStat data, different trends were observed in sub-items. According to the figures provided by Ali Çandır, a monthly increase of 0.74% and an annual increase of 29.92% were recorded in seeds. While energy costs increased by 4.82% monthly and 30.04% annually, fertilizer prices saw a decrease of -3.16% monthly and an increase of 33.07% annually. An increase of 1.31% monthly and 22.69% annually was observed in pesticides, while veterinary expenses saw a decrease of -1.05% monthly and an increase of 22.70% annually. Despite a monthly decrease of -1.64% in feed, an annual increase of 26.89% was calculated. Goods and services contributing to agricultural investment rose by 1.48% monthly and 20.53% annually.

Evaluating the Tarim-UFE data, Ali Çandır noted that producer prices increased by 2.31% monthly in July, which is above the 15-year average of -0.23%. The annual Tarim-UFE increase remained at 18.81%, significantly below the past 15-year average of 27.1%. Drawing attention to the gap between input costs and producer selling prices, ATB and ATAK Chairman Ali Çandır emphasized the chronic income erosion with the following words:

The overseas producer price index (YD-UFE) recorded a monthly increase of 2.51% and an annual increase of 29.67% in July. ATB and ATAK Chairman Ali Çandır made the following observation:

The domestic producer price index (YI-UFE) increased by 1.52% monthly and 27.83% annually. The food industry inflation at the producer level was realized as 0.47% monthly and 33.41% annually. Çandır stated that this data proves that the cost pressure in the agriculture-based manufacturing industry is significantly higher than agriculture's own producer inflation.

Consumer inflation (TÜFE) was measured at 1.78% monthly and 31.75% annually in July. Ali Çandır stated that these rates are the lowest July figures in the last five years and made the following remarks:

Consumer food inflation was 37.52% annually, with a monthly increase of 1.61%. Processed food saw monthly increases of 2.37% and annual increases of 39.69%, while fresh fruits and vegetables recorded high increases of 5.39% monthly and 41.84% annually.

Summarizing the impact of the agricultural sector on general economic balances, Ali Çandır shared the following assessment:

Çandır reminded that agricultural producer prices, which increased by 18.81% annually, remained at almost half the level of general consumer inflation, and added that the fact that increases in agricultural product and supply markets remained well below consumer inflation should be meticulously considered by policymakers.
