Young Farmer in Bartın Increases Hive Count in 8 Years

Selim Asar, who started production with 40 hives through the Young Farmer Project in Bartın in 2018, has grown his business over 8 years into a professional beekeeping operation.

Selim Asar, living in Hasanefendi village of Bartın's Merkez district, began his beekeeping activities in 2018 with 40 hives received within the scope of the Young Farmer Project carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Over the past 8 years, Asar has consistently developed his professional knowledge and field experience, rapidly increasing his hive stock and honey production capacity by benefiting from various grant and support projects offered by the Ministry. Initially a small-scale venture, this activity has gradually become the primary source of income for the young producer, transforming into a professional agricultural enterprise.

To observe the developments at the production facility firsthand, Bartın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Murat Türkmen, visited the apiary in Hasanefendi village. The field inspection program was attended by Deputy Provincial Director Erol Aksoy, Head of Animal Health and Breeding Branch Bora Aykan, Head of Rural Development and Organization Branch Emre Şahin, a veterinarian, and village headman Fedai Kale. The delegation inspected the current beekeeping infrastructure of the enterprise, received information about the general condition of the hives, and thoroughly evaluated technical issues aimed at increasing honey yield in the region.

Arı Yetiştiricisi (Beekeeper) Selim Asar, thanking the delegation for the technical guidance and institutional support provided during the visit, made the following assessment:

Provincial Directorate officials stated that rural development initiatives would continue and that technical follow-up of producers in the region would be sustained.
