Following the flood disaster in Hekimhan district of Malatya, a study has been initiated to compensate for the damage in the 11,000-decare apricot production area.
Flood Support for Apricot Producers in Hekimhan
AK Party Malatya Deputy İnanç Siraç Kara Ölmeztoprak conducted comprehensive field inspections in agricultural production areas across Malatya and in regions affected by the disaster. Ölmeztoprak, who met with apricot producers damaged by the flood in Kocaözü and surrounding neighborhoods of Hekimhan district, stated that the necessary steps will be taken to cover the losses incurred by the farmers after the harvest. Coordination meetings were held with the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and AFAD Provincial Directorate teams during the visit.
Flood Prevention Measures and Ministry Process
In the damage assessment studies carried out by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, it was recorded that producers operating in approximately 11,000 decares of agricultural land were affected by the disaster. It was announced that the prepared official damage reports will be forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry through the Malatya Governorship. It was emphasized that the stream beds must be urgently rehabilitated and permanent infrastructure measures must be implemented to prevent producers from facing similar flood risks.
