3-Day Fire Alert Initiated in Izmir's Rural Areas

The Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate has raised the alert level to maximum, issuing a 3-day high fire risk warning across the city due to dry vegetation and forest areas.

High Fire Risk in Rural Districts

According to data from the Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate, a critical alert period lasting 3 days has begun across the city due to dry vegetation and forest areas. Officials have reported that the fire risk has reached its highest level in the vast rural basin extending from the south to the north of the city. Particularly, the Menderes, Seferihisar, Urla, Çeşme, and Karaburun line, as well as the districts of Kemalpaşa, Bayındır, Ödemiş, Kiraz, and Bergama, which are centers of intense agricultural production, are in the extremely sensitive group. Forest and municipality teams in the field have increased their patrol numbers, and the alert level in rural areas has been raised to the highest stage.

Four Warnings for Producers and Citizens

According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a large portion of fires occur due to human negligence. The Ministry has shared a vital 4-point measure list with the public targeting producers and residents in the region. Within the scope of the warnings, it was requested that fires not be lit in forest areas, that glass and flammable materials not be left in agricultural lands, and that stubble and garden waste absolutely not be burned. Officials emphasized that even the slightest smoke observed in agricultural lands or at the forest border must be reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center without delay.
