Samsung E&A to Build Mega Fertilizer Plant in Saudi Arabia

South Korea's Samsung E&A has single-handedly undertaken the construction of a massive $3.5 billion ammonia and urea fertilizer complex in Saudi Arabia.

Signatures for Mega Fertilizer Complex Signed

South Korea-based Samsung E&A has signed a $3.5 billion engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Saudi Arabia's leading fertilizer producer, SABIC Agri-Nutrients, for the SAN-7 project. According to the company's statement, Samsung E&A will undertake all construction processes of this mega project, valued at approximately 4.7 trillion South Korean won, on its own. The facility, to be established in Jubail Industrial City in eastern Saudi Arabia, is expected to be completed in 2030. The plant will process natural gas as raw material and produce 3,500 tons of ammonia daily.

2.6 Million Tons of Urea Annually for the Global Market

The ammonia produced at the complex will be used as feedstock for the production of 7,700 tons of urea fertilizer per day. SABIC Agri-Nutrients announced in its statement that all the urea fertilizer produced at the facility will be exported to global markets. With the commissioning of the investment, an additional urea production capacity of 2.6 million tons per year will be provided. According to SABIC's official data, this step will increase the company's current annual urea capacity of 4.8 million tons to 7.4 million tons.
