Bungalow Measure on Agricultural Electricity Hinders Producers

Electricity restrictions aimed at preventing illegal bungalow construction on agricultural lands in Antalya are blocking subscription processes for genuine producers seeking to expand their greenhouses and establish seedling facilities.
Problems in Producers' Electricity Demand
Producers in Antalya who want to increase agricultural production and establish new facilities are encountering various bureaucratic obstacles in electricity infrastructure and subscription processes. TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Antalya Branch Chairman Şaban Tat stated that the city is a critical production center with its greenhouses and seedling facilities.
TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Antalya Branch Chairman Şaban Tat, describing the field conditions, explained the situation with the following words:
'Antalya is the capital of agriculture. We have greenhouses, we have seedling production facilities, we have a large number of agricultural businesses, and they all have a common need: electricity. Today, our producers want to grow, want to build a new greenhouse, want to increase the capacity of their seedling production facility. But when it comes to electricity, problems can arise with new subscriptions or power increases.'
Bungalow Exploitation on Agricultural Lands Must Be Prevented
Attention was drawn to the justification of the steps taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to prevent the misuse of agricultural lands. Emphasizing that agricultural subscriptions should not be used improperly in tourist facilities, TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Antalya Branch Chairman Şaban Tat made the following statements:
'Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry wants to prevent agricultural lands from being used for purposes other than their intended use. We are also strongly against agricultural subscriptions being used to build bungalows or residences on agricultural land. The Ministry's sensitivity on this matter is entirely justified.'
It was stated that while administrative decisions taken should prevent abuses, they should not bring agricultural investments to a standstill.
Call for Solution Through Inspection Instead of Prohibition
Stating that the regulations in question should not make the activities of genuine farmers difficult, Şaban Tat noted that the solution lies in effective inspection mechanisms rather than wholesale restrictions. TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Antalya Branch Chairman Şaban Tat continued his statement as follows:
'Blocking the path of the genuine producer should not be a solution. The solution is inspection. Is production actually taking place? Is the electricity truly being used for agriculture? These should be regularly inspected. If someone is using it for unintended purposes, the necessary action should be taken. However, the path for our producing farmers, seedling growers, and businesses should also be cleared.'
Appealing to the authorities, TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Antalya Branch Chairman Şaban Tat concluded his words as follows:
'If we want to grow agriculture in Antalya, we must put solutions, not obstacles, in front of the producers. Let's solve this problem together, specifically for Antalya.'
