US Opens Import Door to Lower Ground Beef Prices

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that up to 300,000 tons of duty-free beef imports will be allowed to reduce record-high ground beef prices and support the domestic cattle herd.

Duty-Free Import Decision Announced

U.S. President Donald Trump has implemented a significant trade step to control the rapidly increasing ground beef prices in the country. According to the official statement, up to 300,000 tons of beef will be allowed to be imported without customs duties, outside of quotas, for use in ground beef production over a 90-day period. The decision, announced via the social media platform Truth Social, is intended to particularly ease the budgets of working families. Trump stated that beef prices reached historic records during the previous administration and that this decision has become necessary to re-establish supply balance in the domestic market.

Price Reduction and Herd Target

Amidst a period where the U.S. cattle population has fallen to its lowest levels in recent years, U.S. President Donald Trump made the following assessment:

"The U.S. will allow up to 300,000 tons of ground beef to be imported without quota tariffs for the next 90 days to help rebuild this herd and support our farmers."

It has been reported that a firm commitment has been secured for the imported beef to be sold at 25% below current market prices. The regulation is expected to provide cheaper meat to consumers while laying the groundwork for the regrowth of local cattle herds.
