Corn Prices Decline in Europe Amid Harvest Pressure
· Tarım Pusulası

Accelerating harvests across the European Union and increased grain supply from Ukraine have pushed corn futures prices to their lowest levels in recent weeks. The pullback from peaks on Paris Euronext is deepening, supported by a positive production outlook in South America.
Sharp Price Decline on European Exchanges
Corn prices in the European market have fallen due to accelerating harvests across the European Union and increased grain supply from Ukraine. According to data from the Paris Euronext Exchange, March corn futures contracts had reached a three-year peak of 280 euros per ton three weeks ago. Subsequent selling pressure pushed futures down to 247.75 euros, approximately $279. The general easing of prices for oil, oilseeds, and meal also directly supported this downward trend in the grain market.

Yield and Production in Ukrainian Harvest
According to data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 30, corn harvesting was completed on 1.715 million hectares. This harvest, representing 37.5% of the planned planting area, yielded an average of 6.28 tons per hectare, with total production reaching 10.776 million tons. Although October exports remained at 262,000 tons, below previous months, total exports of 2.189 million tons in the 2026/27 season surpassed last year's 1.720 million tons.

Cost Pressure Persists in Border Logistics
Significant logistical bottlenecks are occurring in the Ukrainian domestic market due to handling delays at western borders and waiting times for rail wagons. According to market data, the cost of transporting corn by road to buyers in the European Union has risen to $150-170 per ton, making trade difficult. Farm-gate corn purchase prices remained in the range of 4,000-4,800 hryvnia/ton, while prices at Danube ports were 7,000-7,200 hryvnia/ton, and at western terminals, they were 7,000-7,500 hryvnia/ton. A purchase demand of 6,000 hryvnia/ton for shipments to Black Sea ports has created expectations that the route may reopen.
Increasing Global Competition in the Americas
Favorable weather conditions in South America and a slowdown in US exports are putting downward pressure on prices in the global market. According to market data, corn planting in Argentina has reached 37%, and in Brazil, it has reached 63%, surpassing last season. In the US, with 74% of the harvest completed as of November 1, the country's exports decreased by 13.2% to 10.770 million tons. Contracts on the Chicago Board of Trade fell to $175/ton; Mexico's 31% reduction in purchases from the US was also a decisive factor in this decline.
