4,200 Decares of Land to Receive Water in Kestel

The Şevketiye Pond, currently under construction in Bursa's Kestel district, will resolve a 40-year-old irrigation problem; upon project completion, 4,200 decares of agricultural land will benefit from modern irrigation.
Şevketiye Pond Inspected On-Site
Work is rapidly progressing on the Şevketiye Pond project, implemented to strengthen agricultural irrigation infrastructure in Bursa's Kestel district. Kestel Mayor Ferhat Erol visited the site to inspect the activities carried out by the DSİ 1st Regional Directorate, under the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and received technical details from officials. This investment, covering agricultural areas in the Şevketiye and Lütfiye neighborhoods, aims to provide a permanent solution to the chronic irrigation needs of the region. Every stage of the project is being closely monitored to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of local production.
Forty Years of Waiting Nears an End
Kestel Mayor Ferhat Erol commented on the historical dimension of the region's irrigation problem:
"We are nearing the end of a significant issue that Şevketiye has been waiting for, and generations have discussed, for years. We are talking about an expectation of approximately 40 years. One of the biggest needs of our farmers producing in this region was for our agricultural lands to be supplied with water regularly and efficiently. Today, work continues at our Şevketiye Pond to meet this expectation. Concrete works are ongoing in the reservoir area of our pond, which has a height of 20 meters from its base. Upon completion of the works, approximately 4,200 decares of agricultural land in our Şevketiye and Lütfiye neighborhoods will be supplied with water. This investment is extremely important for our farmers' land to be cultivated more productively, for our producers to have stronger access to irrigation water, and for agricultural production in our region to be supported. Kestel is a region with very valuable lands and agricultural production. Therefore, we do not evaluate every step taken here merely as a pond investment. We are talking about a significant step that will bring water to the soil, strength to the producer, and abundance to our region."
Uninterrupted Monitoring with DSİ Coordination
The bureaucratic and technical processes of the investment, which will increase producers' income and agricultural productivity, are being carried out simultaneously. Highlighting the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, Kestel Mayor Ferhat Erol continued his statement as follows:
"We are closely following every stage of this important work that has been awaited for years. We are continuing our discussions and coordination with our DSİ Regional Directorate. We will continue to stand by our farmers who produce, cultivate their land, and add to the abundance of Kestel. The supply of water to our 4,200 decares of agricultural land upon completion of the works will be a very significant gain for our region."
With the completion of the project, a significant increase in product diversity and yield is expected in the region.
