A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry visited Çanakkale and Gökçeada to inspect organic farming projects and participated in the sultani seedless grape harvest.
Comprehensive Summit for Çanakkale Agriculture
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen, conducted a comprehensive visit to personally inspect agricultural production efforts ongoing throughout Çanakkale. Accompanied by the General Director of Plant Production, Uğur Erdem, and the Head of the Department of Good Agricultural Practices and Organic Farming, Başak Egesel, the delegation met with the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry for Çanakkale, Ergün Demirhan. During the meeting, the province's plant production capacity, good agricultural and organic farming activities, and livestock projects were discussed.
Sultani Grape Harvest in Gökçeada
As part of the field inspections, Deputy Minister Ahmet Gümen and his accompanying delegation proceeded to Gökçeada, visiting the vineyards of local producers engaged in sultani seedless grape cultivation. In a program attended by Gökçeada District Governor Osman Acar, vineyard activities and the harvest process on the island were examined on-site. Deputy Minister Gümen and protocol members personally participated in the harvest by cutting grapes in the vineyard, gaining firsthand insights into producers' demands and field experiences, and receiving detailed information about yield status.
Value-Added Production Drive on the Islands
Within the framework of the visit, current developments under the Gökçeada and Bozcaada Agricultural Development and Settlement Project were thoroughly discussed. Gökçeada District Governor Osman Acar emphasized the critical role of enhancing the agricultural production potential of the island's lands and promoting high value-added products for the regional economy. The Ministry's delegation announced that efforts to expand Çanakkale's agricultural capacity and foster organic farming-focused development on the islands will continue with unwavering determination without slowing down.
