China has extended its tariff exemption on Canadian canola meal, peas, and seafood by two years, pushing the deadline to the end of 2028.
Two-Year Extension in Market Access
According to information shared by the Canadian government on November 4, China has decided to extend its tariff reductions on agricultural and seafood products originating from Canada by two more years. The official announcement stated that the regulation, which first came into effect in March 2026 and was normally expected to end by the end of the year, will remain valid until the end of 2028. In line with this decision, the collection of 100% customs duties on canola meal and peas has been suspended, securing agricultural trade between the two countries.

Feed Sector and Product Diversity
This signed commercial extension decision ensures uninterrupted access for canola meal and peas, which hold critical importance in Canada's agricultural export volume, to the Chinese market. Canola meal, used as a fundamental protein source in the animal feed industry, holds a strategic position in the feed raw materials market. Under the regulation, the 25% customs duty collected on seafood products such as lobster and crab has also been removed. While the Canadian government announced the developments, it noted that the process concerning Australia has not yet been clarified.
