4,200 Decares of Land to Receive Water in Bursa's Kestel

Upon completion of the ongoing Şevketiye Pond construction in Bursa's Kestel district, 4,200 decares of fertile agricultural land in two neighborhoods will be equipped with modern irrigation infrastructure.
40 Years of Thirst for Water in Kestel
The final stage has been reached for the irrigation project that producers in Şevketiye and Lütfiye neighborhoods, important agricultural production centers in Bursa's Kestel district, have been waiting for for approximately 40 years. Construction work on the Şevketiye Pond, carried out by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and monitored by the DSİ 1st Regional Directorate, is progressing rapidly. Kestel Mayor Ferhat Erol inspected the site and received information about the construction process from officials. With the realization of the project, the water supply problem that has been experienced by the region's farmers for a long time will find a permanent solution.
Technical Details of the Şevketiye Pond Project
According to the information provided by Kestel Mayor Ferhat Erol, the ongoing Şevketiye Pond has a height of 20 meters from its base. While concrete works in the reservoir section of the pond continue uninterrupted, upon completion of the project, a total of 4,200 decares of fertile agricultural land will be integrated into the modern irrigation network. The aim is to complete the technical processes carried out in coordination with the Kestel Municipality and the DSİ 1st Regional Directorate. Thus, during the dry summer months, water security for producers will be ensured, and regular water will be delivered to fields and gardens.
Agricultural Productivity and Regional Development
The provision of water to the 4,200-decare area in Şevketiye and Lütfiye neighborhoods will directly contribute to the increase in product quality and yield across Kestel. Mayor Ferhat Erol stated that the pond investment is not just an irrigation line but a rural development initiative that will empower producers. It was emphasized that drought risk will be minimized, lands will be cultivated more productively, and the regional agricultural economy will be strengthened through regular irrigation. It was stated that steps to strengthen infrastructure for producers will continue decisively throughout the district.
